Okay, Okay, I know….not so funny joking about hurricanes, while Hurricane Sandy is raging on the East Coast. And, I am seriously praying for my friends and family. Just today, was one of those days that I felt like a mad raging hurricane.
We almost had a disaster in this house. I woke up at 6:30 am and began my morning of diaper changes, whiny “food, food” demands, and loading/unloading the dishwasher. I went to clean out the coffee pot, and wham! It hit me, I forgot to pick up coffee, yesterday, on my way home from church. ugh.
Coffee is a must have for my already unstable mom-brain. I seriously began to put the milk in the cupboards, and the cereal in the refrigerator. Not to mention, 6:30 was never seen on my alarm clock unless it was with a small “p.m.” beside it before my kids were born. I DON’T DO mornings. Even my kids have figured this out. My 20 month old daughter occasionally instead of saying, “I need my cuppy” will say, “I need my coffee”. They know that coffee is paramount for mornings running smoothly around here.
Let me tell you, by 9 a.m. my brain was fuddy duddy and my kids were speaking in higher decibels than humanly possible. But, I just so happened I was digging (er, um, I mean angrily grumbling) in the freezer trying to figure out what was going to be for dinner and I spot a bag of coffee that I had received as a “free” sample in the mail about 10 months ago. I had put it in the freezer for another day or as Cole says as a Starbucks coffee snob, “Let’s save that for when we have people over who can’t appreciate GOOD coffee. Why waste starbucks?” (jokingly of course, as we’ve really only ever served Starbuck’s to our guests).
So, I made some very “free” tasting coffee, hid it in my egg nog creamer, settled down to read a chapter of my Bible, and realized today of all days, I was praising Jesus for the little blessing he hid inside the most horrible tasting coffee I have ever drank. So, today, day 8 of my praise pact, coffee is the thing I’m thankful for!
“Whatever is good….comes to us from God above” James 1:17. Can I get an Amen?
